Picturesque Villages

Scala and the hamlet of Pontone

The municipality of Scala masters the Amalfi Coast from the top of its rocky mountain, about 400 meters above sea level. Together with the nearby Ravello, it was one of the main bulwarks of defense of the coastal territory built in the Middle Ages. Despite the passage of time, the village has preserved that ancient atmosphere as evidenced, in fact, by its skyline rich in history. The symbolic monuments of Scala are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo (dedicated to the homonymous patron saint), located in the Main Square, and the Bishop's Palace.

It is important to remember that the oldest town on the Amalftina Coast welcomes, every year, from August 11th to September 11th, a great event, "Scala meets New York": an international twinning, with musical performances and cultural festivals. While, between July and August, the ancient union between the heirs Coppola and Rufolo is proposed again with the "Medieval Marriage". Among the hamlets of Scala we find Pontone, where stands the structure of Palazzo Verone.
Pontone is dominated by noble palaces (as evidenced by our Bed and Breakfast), historic churches and towers: the Church of San Giovanni, the remains of the Basilica of Sant'Eustachio and the Torre dello Ziro. As for the hiking aspect, they start from Pontone, the "Oriented Nature Reserve" of the "Valle delle Ferriere" and one of the stages of the "Path of the Gods"

The Valley of the Ironworks

A natural area protected by the Campania Region

The "Valle delle Ferriere" is an "Oriented Nature Reserve" that preserves within it, in a typically tropical atmosphere with breathtaking creeks and waterfalls, one of the oldest and rarest plants of the pre-glacial era: a bulbiferous fern better known by the name of "Woodwardia Radicans".

It has found its natural habitat here thanks to a microclimate (hot-humid) determined in the ravines in which it lives and is protected by a safeguard program of the State Forestry Corps.

The Secret Garden of the Soul

"Open Gardens" among the 100 most interesting amateur gardens in Italy. Various amateur sites and forums, links to Botanical Gardens and Nurseries

"Creating a garden is like creating a work of art. You can see, smell, taste, touch and perhaps hear my happiness but first you must learn to understand, know and love."(Gilles Clément)
